Design and construction
Some people want compact city bikes as they take up less space. But there are people who don’t trust small bicycles. They prefer to have a bike big and powerful that can be driven even on bad roads.
The first thing that catches the eye when examining ENGWE EP-2 are the big wheels 20 inches wide. The size is 20 x 4 inches.
In addition, the electric bike has a solid and sturdy frame, made in aluminium alloy. In addition, the wheels themselves are not spoked, but are made of an aluminum alloy, which gives it a certain stiffness and safety even on rough roads.
Almost all bikes have a folding mechanism, and the ENGWE model is no exception. The bike frame can be easily folded down if needed, saving nearly half the space of its original size. This way you can easily transport your bike in the trunk of even a small sedan.
But of course, ENGWE EP-2 it will not be as easy to transport as, for example, the most compact and smallest e-bikes. Keep in mind, however, that the bike weighs approx 29 kg.
The frame houses a removable battery, so you don’t have to take the whole bike home every time to recharge the battery. In terms of capacity, the bike is equipped with one 12.5 Ah battery. In this case, a full battery charge will require up to 6 hours.
In terms of electric motor power, ENGWE EP-2 uses a 500 W. The maximum speed of the bike reaches i 38 km per hour.
The construction quality and the components, both mechanical and electrical, are of a good standard.
There is one 4 inch LCD screen on the steering wheel of the bike. It is easy to read even in sunny weather and displays a lot of useful information. These are the speed, the mode used, the travel time, the cruising range and the battery level. Of course, the screen itself is protected from water, dust and drops.
In addition, you can access a submenu to fine-tune the controller to suit your driving style. There is also one USB port for charging gadgets. In the carriage area there is a magnetic sensor, which allows you to move not only on the gas stick, but also in assistant mode.
Among the devices of lighting, there is a projector with a sufficiently bright and wide light spot. And the rear light works the same way as the battery headlight on an electric bike, in size and brake light mode. Unfortunately, there are no turn signals in this model.
A bicycle can travel around 30-35km with pure electric drive. If you pedal, the range will increase to 50-60 km. The rear wheel has 7 gears of the Shimano brand, which allows you to use the usual driving mode, as on a bicycle, as well as, if so, drive to the nearest outlet to recharge.
The maximum speed that can be maintained on the electric drive is 38 km / hif necessary, nothing prevents you from accelerating using the pedals. During the tests, the actual maximum speed recorded by the GPS tracker remained between 33-35 km / h.
For example, apparently wide and massive mudguards in practice proved ineffective in protecting against water and dirt, which is even more intensely dispersed in different directions by the off-road tire tread.
The front shock is of mediocre quality, but when combined with wide, low-pressure tires, the e-bike overcomes bumps and obstacles quite gently.
Nothing to say about the quality of assembly, on the welding of the frame and on the materials used.
It can definitely be said that if you switch to an electric fat bike from a normal electric bike, the first time you use it, you will be overwhelmed with positive emotions. Probably, something similar can be experienced by switching from a passenger car to an SUV.
